Amy E. Krambeck, MD, presents a case of a 67-year-old man with a large prostate that was managed with holmium laser enucleation of the prostate (HoLEP). When the patient arrived at the Northwestern Memorial Hospital Emergency Department, clinicians discovered that his prostate was enlarged at a volume of 660 CCs, and he had a 4-centimeter bladder stone.
This patient had previously undergone a transurethral resection of the prostate elsewhere and had tried intermittent catheterization unsuccessfully. Dr. Krambeck performed a HoLEP on this patient, removing 601 grams of tissue as a result.
