After facing the struggle to get freedom from the British, India got its independence in 1947. But the problems of the country were far from over. Which is why the leaders of our parliament came up with a solution. A solution that lays down the framework of the country’s structure and functions even today. Many of these structures have been amended overtime to keep the Constitution up-to-date with the changes and requirements of modern society. For example - The age to vote was lowered from 21 years to 18 years by the 61st amendment, in 1988, as more youth were educated and enlightened enough to take such important decisions. The Constitution of India is the supreme law of India. The document demarcates the fundamental political code, structure, procedures, powers, and duties of government institutions and sets out fundamental rights, directive principles, and the duties of citizens.
