A thrilling, breathtaking drop ride, Detonator opened at Thorpe Park in 2001. It was manufactured by the Fabbri Group, a specialist Italian manufacturer of rollercoasters and thrill rides.
Detonator stands 115ft (35 metres) tall, and takes 12 riders to the summit before plummeting to the bottom in a staggering three seconds. Detonator gives the sensation of free-falling through the air with riders legs dangling beneath, and being launched down by pneumatics gives the same airtime to a freefalling tower twice as tall!
With a massive G-force of 5.5g and a top speed of 47mph, it may not be the highest tower ride, but it certainly packs a punch that few others can match...
