Transcription and Captioning Basics in Premiere Pro

In this tutorial you’ll learn
In this tutorial you’ll learn everything you need to get started transcribing and captioning your videos in Premiere Pro. You may need to make captions for YouTube or various other reasons. It’s super easy to do in Premiere.
Here’s a quick recap:
First, make sure your video is DONE. No more changes. Under the Window Menu select Text. In the Text panel open the Transcript tab. Click the “Create transcription” button. Adjust the settings in the box that appear as needed then click Transcribe. Premiere Pro will generate the transcription once you do this. It may take a couple of minutes. Be patient. Have a sip of water.
When the transcription is finished, revise it for grammar, punctuation, and misspellings as needed. When you play your timeline each word will highlight in the transcription. It’s pretty neat.
To create the captions, click the “Create captions” button. In the box that appears, adjust the settings as needed then click Create. Premiere will take a moment to create the captions. When finished, a new C1 track will be created and the Captions tab in the Text panel will be populated. Adjust the timing as needed in the timeline by clicking the end of a caption clip and pulling it left or right.
When you’re done, back in the Text panel in the Captions tab find the three dots icon. Select “Export to SRT file…” and save out the .srt file. Over on YouTube you can upload this file to your video. Done!
