Well the answer could be yes and no. now it depends on the person who will come to Australia as a tourist. To stay permanently in Australia one needs to take a visa that will allow him or her to live in Australia permanently, which is a Permanent resident visa or permanent residency visa. Australia offers several category of Permanent resident visa, which allows to live and work in Australia Permanently. Each of these visa has it’s own requirement and criteria that must be fulfilled by the person wants to avail those, whether that person is coming to Australia as a visitor on a visitor visa or in other words as a tourist on a tourist visa. If the person on a visitor visa does not have a condition that he or she cannot apply for another visa while onshore Australia, means while staying in Australia in that visitor visa; then the person has to go back to home country or to another country and then apply for the Permanent residence visa. Finally, if any person wants to avail permanent residency in Australia through any permanent resident visa, he or she can apply even from his or her home country without requiring to come to Australia on a visitor visa or tourist visa. If the person can fulfill the requirements of permanent residency, he or she may get it.
