Throughout various lifetimes, we often make vows—for reasons ranging from religious to romantic—that carry a profound emotional weight. These can include vows of poverty, chastity, celibacy, giving up material goods, serving certain organizations and others, or even promises of eternal love to another person. Marriage vows, in particular, are deeply significant commitments we made.
However, these vows can sometimes act as barriers to living fully in the present because they were made with intense emotion and intention. For example, difficulties in current relationships might be traced back to a vow of fidelity to a single soul in a past life. Similarly, pledges of loyalty to a leader, nation, or cause can also lead to challenges today.
