The system combines layers in the cell to absorb both visible and infrared light to achieve 15 percent efficiency. This structure allows them to be more flexible and is easier to manufacture than their inorganic counterpart since carbon-based organic solar cells are thin enough to be made into rolls, whereas silicon-based are composed of thick, rigid sheets.
