Brandt-Darrof Exercises are used to treat Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo abbreviated as BPPV. These exercises are aimed at dislodging the otoconial debris that is either inappropriately adherent to the cupula of the semicircular canal thus making it heavy and gravity sensitive, a condition known as Cupulolithiasis or to dissolve the otoconial debris that has inappropriately sequestrated out of the utricular macula to drop-off into any one or more of the three semicircular canals leading inappropriate asymmetrical stimulation of the sensors of angular acceleration, a condition known as Canalolithiasis. Patients with significant cervical spine diseases like ankylosing spondylitis, atlanto-axial dislocation, and unstable carotid plaque are unsuitable for such treatment.
