Banded Jawfish Eggs Hatching

A male Banded Jawfish releasing its offspring into the night sea. The whole process took about 20 minutes. After a week of mouthbrooding, the fry are ready to be released into the sea. Soon afterwards he will take on another clutch and the process will start all over again. Excuse the moody lighting but I didn’t want to shine a bright light on the Jawfish when he was performing such an important task. I placed my light in the sand, angled away from the jawfish, so that only a soft kiss of light is on the fish. Just enough light for the camera to focus and nothing more.
