Typhoon Khanun made landfall in
Typhoon Khanun made landfall in the southeast coast of South Korea on Wednesday, bringing up to 66 milimetres of rain per hour and wind speeds of up to 90 kilometres per hour across the nation — stirring mass concern of the typhoon’s potential path of destruction.
“We’re seeing more typhoons due to global warming, and more incidents caused by climate change,” a Seoul resident said, reacting to the danger of typhoon Khanun.
Khanun, which just passed through Japan, is the first typhoon in five decades to pass directly through the Korean Peninsula, according to Lee Hyun-ho, Professor of Atmospheric Science at Kongju National University.
Safety, weather and travel warnings have been issued all across the nation, with more than 330 flights canceled approximately 10,000 people moved to safety.
Khanun changed its path to the Korean Peninsula as a result of strong wind pressures, according to Lee, adding that increasing sea surface temperatures made the typhoon even stronger.
