Tropics forecast: Nicole could reach hurricane strength when it reaches Florida

Subtropical Storm Nicole could reach hurricane strength -- or near hurricane strength -- when it reaches the east coast of the Florida peninsula, should current forecasts from the National Hurricane Center hold.

Currently, sustained winds are near 45 mph, and the storm is expected to gradually strengthen over the next few days. Main threats right now are winds, storm surge and tide, and several inches of rain.
