For resources, visit https://bit.ly/DFW-help or call 469-444-7070. Here’s the problem: In the U.S., treatment is only guaranteed when it’s an emergency. The emergency law—EMTALA—says that we’re only guaranteed treatment if our health is in serious danger. And, because of federal laws and laws here in Texas, we’re not allowed to access the insurance exchanges or Medicaid. Here’s the good news. There are some places you can go in DFW to get help. We’ve created a way for people like us to find them, to get information about your health—including what to do if you’re sick with COVID-19, and to share information about what’s not working. From your friends at HRI Connect. About HRI Connect: We are group of current and former clients (and the people that love them!) who are coming together to build a community where everyone feels welcomed and embraced, regardless of who we are, what we look like, or how well we speak English. We all build this country where we live, no matter where we were born. About HRI: For the past 20 years, Human Rights Initiative of North Texas has provided legal and critical social services for immigrant survivors of human rights abuses from all over the world.
