Cordoba is a beautiful and historical city, located in the province of Cordoba, Andalusia, Spain. Córdoba is famous around the world for its Great Mosque, old cobbled streets, charming parks, plazas, palaces with their typical Cordobese patios, historical monuments, architectural beauty, flamenco and bullfighting. Cordoba is the only city in the world to have four Unesco World Heritage sites. Cordoba was a city of high strategic importance for both the Muslims and Christians. In the 11th century, Córdoba was one of the most important capitals in Europe and the most sophisticated city in Western Europe.
Monuments and places of interest:
La Mezquita (The Great Mosque) - the Mosque was converted into a Christian cathedral in the 13th century, now a blend of Roman, Gothic, Byzantine, Syrian and Persian architectural styles.
Puente Romano (The Roman Bridge) - a bridge of more than 300 meters length, build by the Romans in the 1st century.
Alcazar de los Reyes Cristianos (Palace of the Christian Kings) - a medieval fortress located in the historic center of Córdoba.
The Medina Azahara - a fortified palace-city ruins, built by Abd-ar-Rahman III during the mid 900s.
La Judería - the old Jewish quarter.
Calleja de las Flores - a typical narrow, cobbled street with whitewashed houses with balconies and walls decorated with flowers.
Patio de los Naranjos - a stunning courtyard within the mosque/cathedral of Cordoba planted with orange trees.
Palacio de Viana - a Renaissance palace with 12 beautiful plant filled patios.
