Patients who have loose abdominal skin and fat that is concentrated in the abdomen can benefit from tummy tuck surgery. Often, pregnancy or substantial weight loss may cause abdominal skin to become stretched out and excessive. A tummy tuck tightens the abdominal muscles that have been separated and weakened in these cases. The procedure often eliminates stretch marks that are located below the navel, as the affected skin is removed as part of the operation.
The procedure takes approximately 3 hours. Patients typically can return to work within 2 weeks (if it is a desk job). Six weeks after surgery, patients are able to return to the gym and perform physical activity.
