Metaplastic breast cancer is very
Metaplastic breast cancer is very rare, accounting for fewer than 1% of all forms of breast cancer. It begins in the milk duct of the breast before spreading to the tissue around the duct. Unlike the cells of other invasive ductal tumors, which appear abnormal but still resemble normal ductal cells, metaplastic tumors also contain cells that look like the soft tissue and connective tissue in the breast, which have undergone a change in form (metaplasia) to become completely different cells.
Jessica’s breast cancer also tested negative for estrogen receptors, progesterone receptors, and excess HER2 protein (triple-negative), which means it won't respond to hormonal therapy medicines or medicines that target HER2 protein receptors.
After being informed that her fertility would be affected by the chemotherapy that she was about to receive, she decided to have her eggs frozen so she would still be able to get pregnant in the future.
