As we bid farewell to 2023, Singh took the opportunity to extend warm wishes to all Singaporeans. However, in true political fashion, he also used the occasion to review the efforts made by the Workers' Party (WP) to effect policy change in the past year.

One notable highlight was the emphasis on policy changes in 2023. Singh brought attention to two full motions raised by WP in Parliament. In July, there was a crucial debate on re-imagining sporting success in Singapore, showcasing the party's commitment to holistic national development. Fast forward to November, another motion was introduced, tackling the pressing issue of the cost of living crisis. The discussions revolved around the need for structural reforms to mitigate the pace of inflation, demonstrating WP's dedication to addressing real-world challenges faced by Singaporeans.

But it wasn't just about highlighting problems; Singh also advocated for solutions. During a Parliament session in February, he spoke passionately about the government's role in intensifying efforts to meet the demand for affordable and accessible housing. This reflects WP's proactive stance on critical issues that directly impact the lives of Singaporeans.

On a positive note, Singh underscored the progress made towards a "more balanced political system." He expressed satisfaction with Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong's announcement during the 2023 National Day Rally speech. The government's commitment to providing temporary financial support for retrenched workers, enabling them to focus on skill upgrading for long-term job prospects, aligns with WP's vision for a more inclusive society.

Moreover, Singh applauded Parliament's intention to pass amendments to the Stillbirths and Births (Miscellaneous Amendments) Bill in January 2024. This progressive move aims to allow parents to register the births of their stillborn children, recognizing and acknowledging their existence in the official register.

A significant win for family values was also highlighted—the doubling of paid paternity leave to four weeks for new fathers starting from January 1, 2024. This development, announced during Budget 2023, resonates with WP's 2020 Manifesto, where the issue of shared parental leave was initially addressed.

In his New Year's message, Singh reassured Singaporeans that WP remains dedicated to working hard and making a positive impact on policies for the betterment of all. He extended gratitude to everyone who supported the party in 2023 and encouraged continued support in the coming year.

As we embark on the journey into 2024, Singh invites us all to walk together towards a more balanced political system. Indeed, there is much to be done for Singapore and its people, and WP is committed to being an active force for positive change.
