Harbor Freight Tools sells several different kinds of car ramps to lift a vehicle higher to do oil changes and other maintenance tasks under a car and truck more easily.
It was always a problem for me because I liked keeping my pump jack under the car and truck as a backup for the car jacks I used to keep them elevated. It's the old adage about backup safety plans: 3 is 2, 2 is 1, and 1 is none.
But keeping the pump jack there also meant it could get in the way. So getting a set of ramps would allow me to clear out the jack from underneath the vehicle, opening up a lot of extra room to maneuver.
Harbor Freight Tools sells a metal type (SKUs 63250, 68365, 63305) and a plastic version (SKU 63956). The plastic is actually polypropylene. While they're both priced the same, about $48, the metal ramps only have a 6,500 lb total capacity and the plastic ones have a 13,000 lb total capacity. That made the choice easy for me since I own both a pickup truck and a full-size SUV.
In this video I go over all the features of the ramps and show how they hold up under various loads. Also, I have a low profile vehicle that presents a unique challenge as its air dam could scrape the ramps and push them out of the way. I show you how well even a low-profile vehicle can mount the ramp.
