First song similar to this was written during WW1 by Ukrainian Sich Riffleman - ukrainian military unit in Austria-Hungary army. The exact author is unknown.
Different versions of that song was popular in army of UNR, Ukrainian Halichian Army (armed forces of West Ukrainian National Republic) and Ukrainian Insurgent army.

Lyrics (translation):
There, beyong the horizon, sun is shining,
Rifleman's army leaves the trenches,
Oh, tranches, tranches, it is hard to leave it,
And it was harder to build it.

Chorus:
Forest is our father, dark night is our mother,
Rifle and saber - my whole family.
Hey, win or die - no one dies twice!
Saint George and Holy Mother will help us!

We recaptured Ternopil*, we laid siege to Lviv*,
But near Peremyshl* we lost our heads.
There, near Peremyshl, is a high grave,
Where the rifleman's force is buried.

*Ternopil, Lviv and Peremyshl are cities in western Ukraine. Peremyshl nowadays is a part of Poland.
