Peru - Rebels address press conference

Journalists in Lima were on Tuesday (31/12) allowed for the first time to enter the residence of the Japanese ambassador, to cover a press conference by leftist rebels who continue to hold 83 hostages.
In Tokyo Japan's Prime Minister Ryutaro Hashimoto criticised the media for making direct contact with the leftist rebels. During his New Year's address, Hashimoto said he hoped the incident which happened on the 12th of December last year would be resolved quickly and peacefully.
