*Marsiya*, also known as Marthiya or Marthia, is a poetic genre rooted in the tradition of elegy writing. It primarily serves as a platform for poets to commemorate and pay tribute to the tragic events of Karbala, the epic battle where Imam Hussain, the grandson of Prophet Muhammad, and his followers were martyred in 680 AD. These elegies are recited during the Islamic month of Muharram, especially on the Day of Ashura, to mourn the tragic martyrdom and convey the message of sacrifice, justice, and resistance.
