Jame' Asr Hassanil Bolkiah Mosque
Jame' Asr Hassanil Bolkiah Mosque is one of the two national mosques in Bandar Seri Begawan. Built in 1992 to celebrate the 25th year of the current sultan's reign. The 29 golden domes on Brunei’s largest mosque honour the nation’s 29th and current sultan. Located a short drive from central Bandar Seri Begawan in Kampong Kiarong, the mosque is an architectural masterpiece. Minarets soar 52 metres (190 feet) into the air. A total of 5,000 worshipers can pray inside at any time. This ornately decorated mosque, built in 1994, is surrounded by landscaped gardens and fountains. It is a fine example of Islamic architecture carried out with a devotion to details. The interior more than matches the mosque's lavish exterior, with sweeping staircases, supersized chandeliers, fine stained glass and repeating motifs based on Islamic geometry.
