1. The Shoebill (Balaeniceps rex), commonly known as the whale-headed stork or the shoe-billed stork, is a very large wading bird from Africa.
2. The name "shoebill stork" refers to the bird's long, shoe-shaped beak, which curves down at the end to form a sharp hook that may pierce the bodies of its prey.
3. With appearance almost like dinosaur , Shoebills are about 115 cm (3.8 feet) tall, have long legs , broad wings, and are completely gray.
4. They have the 3rd longest beak in the world, which enables them to hunt extremely large prey, including eels, catfish, lizards, snakes, and even baby crocodiles.
5. Being an ambush predator, Shoebill can often stands still for long periods, motionless like a statue, before making a brutal attack to kill any prey that come within close reach.
6. The Shoebill is mostly silent, but while mating or greeting, they are known to clatter their bills loudly, which can sound similar to a machine gun.
7. Shoebills are generally calm and docile with humans. They are also known to bow back at you when you approach them with a deep bow and shake your head side to side.
