Bambusa vulgaris, common bamboo, is an open-clump type bamboo species. It is native to Bangladesh, India, Sri Lanka, Southeast Asia, and to the province of Yunnan in southern China, but it has been widely cultivated in many other places and has become naturalized in several regions.

Large bamboo forming erect clumps up to 20 m tall. Leaves are lance-shaped with a rough leaf margin (30 cm long, 4 cm wide). About 8-9 leaves are arranged along each branch. Young leaves are bright yellow, eventually turning green and then brown.

Bamboo can be used to make borders, privacy screens, and erosion control on slopes.
