Bengaluru: Pooja alias Bagavathi Targeted People Who Wish To Buy Cars For Low Price...,

A 35-year-old BBA graduate, who chose crime as her profession instead of entering the workstream as a white-collar professional, has landed behind bars. To make easy money and lead a lavish life, she targeted showrooms and conned them after purchasing electronic goods. Recently, she raised her game a notch further and conned a showroom to the tune of Rs 16 lakh, only to find herself in police net. Police have arrested Sukanya, alias Pooja, alias Bagavathi (26), a resident of Babusapalya and a native of Kavandapadi, Erode district, Tamil Nadu. She had pursued BBA from a private college in the city, and went on a cheating spree after failing to find a job.
According to police, Sukanya is extraordinary talented in striking up conversations and making friends. Though she had been arrested before, she did not turn a new leaf. She had her comeuppance when she recently conned a showroom by paying for electronic goods with a stolen cheque. The showroom learnt about her crime after they found that the cheque given by her was stolen. They rushed to the Indiranagar police and filed a complaint.
On March 7, Sukanya visited the showroom of multi-brand retailer Pai International at 100 Feet Road, Indiranagar, and purchased a mobile phone and TV worth Rs 3 lakh and paid for it entirely in cash to create a favourable first impression and make the management eagerly await the next visit of this ’affluent shopper’. During her visit, she made it a point to strike up a conversation with the showroom staff and wowed them.
The showroom staff thought that they had found a rich shopper ready to splurge and treated her royally so that she would become a repeat visitor, police said.
Sukanya visited the same showroom again on March 26. This time she purchased three TVs, a home theatre, and a refrigerator. The bill came to a whopping Rs 16 lakh. Once done shopping, she asked the staff to pack the goods and shift it to the vehicle parked in front of the showroom.
She made a show of having left the money at home and informed the cashier that she would pay the bill amount by cheque. The staff took the cheque, but realised when they went to the bank that it was not hers.
