FAO's work in the Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) in 2013-2014 through ECHO-funded project "Early Recovery Assistance to Restore Agriculture-based Livelihoods in Critically Food insecure Areas of the CHT".

The CHT is a geographically and socio-culturally distinct region located in southeastern Bangladesh. It is home to a large number of small ethnic communities and is covered by hills, which have made it unique in terms of agricultural practices and livelihood patterns.

Following two decades of conflict, CHT remains one of the most vulnerable regions in Bangladesh. Most indigenous people are not secure in relation to food availability throughout the year.

FAO supported 6,200 food insecure households in remote areas of CHT - Sajek union, Rangamati and Thanchi upazila, Bandarban - in order to improve their livelihoods through sustainable management of natural resources and technological innovations in agriculture.
