What do Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, Ferraris, designer stubble, outrun, synthwave, retrowave, and the '80s renaissance have in common? Two words: Miami Vice. So in-between watching GTA 6 trailer breakdowns, why not learn how this stylish police procedural spread its vast influence echoes across our culture, entertainment and civilization for decades? From Grand Theft Auto: Vice City and Vice City Stories, Hotline Miami, Drive (2011), Burn Notice, the Outrun movement, mallsoft music, and countless other works.
And while most only know it for white suits and funny haircuts, the show is much more than it initially lets on. And unlike most TV series, this work of fiction helped transform the Miami-Dade area from a crime-addled slum to a booming party town, famous for its music and tourism scene.
