Vinson) was the final climb in my 7 summits journey. It became the most personal and emotional of all the 7 summits... this is the story of my team's climb. The guide outfitter in this expedition was International Mountain Guides. Vinson Massif is a large mountain massif in Antarctica that is 21 km (13 mi) long and 13 km (8 mi) wide and lies within the Sentinel Range of the Ellsworth mountain range. It's's Antarctica's tallest mountain, making it one of the '7 Summits.' Elevation‎: ‎4,892 m (16,050 ft). The main route is not technical, but does involve snow travel, which is steep on the headwall. (About 35-40 degree incline). First ascent‎: ‎1966 by Nicholas Clinch and party. 700 nautical miles from the South Pole. It's often guided by International Mountain Guides, Alpine Ascents International, and others... all of whom use Antarctic Logistics & Expeditions for transportation. The cost to climb increases each year, primarily due to the flight cost, which is more than $30,000. The remaining balance (usually at least $12,500 additional) is for guide service.
