The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde, the full audiobook. Written in 1891, it is a cleverly crafted story that challenges readers to think outside the box as it investigates the complex connections between art, existence, and consequence. The novel plays with the idea of sin as an aspect of design, author challenges the reader to believe in "art for art's sake."

A Librivox recording, read by John Gonzalez.

Basil Hallward, a friend of Dorian Gray and an artist enamoured with Dorian's beauty, produces a painting of Dorian Gray that serves as the central focus of the narrative. Dorian first meets Lord Henry Wotton through Basil, and is immediately attracted by the aristocrat's hedonistic worldview, which holds that the only things worth pursuing in life are beauty and sensual fulfilment. Dorian, who has recently realised that his beauty will deteriorate, expresses the wish to sell his soul in order to make sure that his picture will age and deteriorate rather than him. Dorian's wish comes true, and he lives a libertine lifestyle filled with many immoral encounters while remaining youthful and attractive. Throughout this time, his portrait ages and graphically documents all of Dorian's misdeeds.
