Engine Whine with RPM Troubleshooting - Here's How to Test for Bearing or Accessory Noise

In this video, I show you how you can remove the serpentine belt on your vehicle to help track down an engine whine with acceleration or RPM. This engine noise can be caused by several different components in the vehicle but this test can help you determine if it's related to a bearing or part in the belt-driven systems such as your alternator, water pump, AC Compressor, power steering pump, idler pulley etc. If the noise goes away when you remove the belt then it is a pretty good indicator that you may have a faulty part that is not spinning without the belt and is thus not making noise until you put the belt back on. For me, it is definitely my "new" cheap Ultima alternator from O'Reilly Auto Parts. 😒
