Jyotiba Phule was a great social reformer of the 19th century India. An event in 1848 in the life of Jyotiba Phule inspired him to fight against the evils of caste discrimination. Jyotirao Phule founded the Satyasodhak Samaj in 1873 to fight against the injustices prevalent in the society. Jyotiba Phule also educated his wife Savitribai Phule and associated her in all his reform movements as he as a big supporter of women education and widow remarriage.
