Powerful Knowledge 10 - Finite element modelling of magnetic components

Finite element analysis (FEA) is a powerful tool for many areas of engineering. In this video, episode 10 of our 'Powerful Knowledge' series, we explore the use of FEA to help with the design of magnetic components in power electronic applications.

We illustrate the use of FEA using the free FEMM tool https://www.femm.info/wiki/download to analyse the 50W flyback transformer from our previous magnetics design video, Powerful Knowledge 9 - Magnetics desi..., as well as a 2kW LLC transformer where we space the windings apart to use the leakage inductance as our series resonant inductor.
