Mysore Zoo (Now Mysuru Zoo) (officially the Sri Chamarajendra Zoological Gardens) is a 157-acre (64 ha) zoo located near the palace in Mysore, India. It is one of the oldest and most popular zoos in India, and is home to a wide range of species (168). Mysore Zoo is one of the city’s most popular attractions.

The tickets are charged differently for Indians and foreigners. Students are given a concessional rate at the zoo and about 15,000 – 20,000 students visit the zoo annually.
You can either walk or use a battery operated carriage for a fee Rs. 150 per person. If you choose to walk, you will have to walk for minimum 2 hrs but this can be reduced to 1 hrs if you opt for the carriage. You will have to walk about 3kms from the entry gate to the exit gate.
History of Mysore Zoo
Mysore zoo is created in 1892 on 10 acres of land and now it is spreading across 157 acres. Zoo was originally set up by a German landscaper and horticulturist G. H. Krumbiegel. The zoo was opened to the public in 1902 and the centenary celebrations were held in 1990-1991.
Mysore zoo is also known as Palace zoo has successfully completed 125 years in 2017. Now Mysore zoo is officially known by the name Sri Chamarajendra zoological gardens.
