Karnataka Express (KK) creates a
Karnataka Express (KK) creates a History with the Electric Locomotives replacing the pristine Diesels between Bangalore - Wadi. Catch the first regular run of Karnataka Express in Electric Traction departing from Bangalore and a small Celebration by the Railfans.
The Legendary KARNATAKA Express was flagged off on July 20th, 1976 as the first direct train from the Garden City, Bangalore connecting to the nations Capital, New Delhi. There was no Rajdhani, Duronto nor a Sampark kranti running at that time.The train was also called as SUPER and had a very tight schedule back then. Even Today Karnataka Express holds the prestigious tag and enjoys high priority across most of the sections it travels.
The train was very famously known for its Twin Diesel Engines ever since the coach composition was cvhanged to 21 Coaches back in the 80's. It was the maximum length for a Express train then. Due to the 21 coach load a single WDM2 ALCo with a power output of 2600 Horse Power wasn't sufficient hence the Train use to get twin WDM2 Multiple Unit with a Total power output of 5200 HP.
The chugging and smoking of the train can never be forgotten any time soon. Until 2014 Karnataka Express use to be hauled by the customary ITARSI Diesel Engines right from Itarsi to Bangalore.Later the loco change happened at Manmad and the Diesel link was provided by Moula Ali and Guntakal Shed until 2016. Once the Manmad - Daund Section got electrified in 2017 KK's Diesel journey was further curtailed to Daund and the Diesel link was provided by Pune Diesel Shed from Daund to Bangalore.
Daund to Solapur is still un-electrified and KK will still continue running with Diesel locomotives for a mere 300 KM distance. The train will sadly have to undergo multiple Loco changes in its single journey.The Twin Diesel locomotives will be badly missed in Bangalore .
