Today, we are strolling through Qiemo County, the second largest county in China. Qiemo County is located in Bayingol League Prefecture of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, China. The area of Qiemo County has reached an astonishing 140000 square kilometers, even exceeding the area of a province in mainland China. But the county seat of Qiemo County is not large, and the population is only 71000 people.
Although Qiemo County is large, most of the area is mountainous, desert, and Gobi Desert that are not suitable for human habitation. Two of China's four desert highways pass through Qiemo County. Therefore, some people also say that Qiemo County is a city built on the desert.
The most famous thing in Qiemo County is jade, and Qiemo County is also known as the Jade Capital. If you travel to Qiemo County, you can see many jade processing shops and jade raw stone sales shops on the streets of the county.
Qiemo County also boasts excellent scenery in China, including deserts, Gobi Desert, Populus euphratica forest, wild camels, and beautiful lakes. You can see all of these in Qiemo County, which is why more and more mainland Chinese people are coming to Xinjiang for tourism. Many of the scenery is irreplaceable.
Qiemo County has a population of 71000, with ethnic minorities accounting for 71%. The Han ethnic group accounts for 30%. Qiemo County is over 1270 kilometers away from the capital of Xinjiang, Urumqi, by road.
