Ashgabat is the capital of Turkmenistan, the largest administrative, political, industrial, scientific and cultural center of the state. On May 25, 2013, the city was included in the Guinness Book of Records for the fifth time as the whitest marble city in the world (543 new buildings lined with white marble) On August 6, 2018, it was announced that the city's population had exceeded 1 million residents.

The name of the new city “Arkadag” appeals to the official title “Arkadag” (or “Hero-Arkadag”) Construction of the city began in 2020; by the end of 2022, a significant part of the first phase of construction of the new city was at an advanced stage of completion.
