Our friends at AppHarvest approached us with a challenge during the early months of the pandemic. They wanted to know if Hort Americas could assist them in locating lights that were:
1. Made in the United States of America.
2. Produced in the Appalachian Mountain region.
3. Made at a cost that is comparable to or less than that of the competition.
This was a big ask in May 2020. Most businesses were not considering new projects, particularly those that would incur additional costs or necessitate significant expenditure. As a result of the epidemic, most U.S.-based businesses were more concerned about applying for PPP or cutting expenses to shield themselves from an uncertain future and declining sales.
Hort Americas made a concerted effort to ensure that opportunities were not missed. Opportunities to reintroduce manufacturing to the United States. Possibilities to assist their business partner in the development of new generations of existing excellent technologies. And chances to assist a customer in achieving its goal of bringing jobs and food production back to the Appalachian region.
LED grow lights have now become the norm within the horticulture, agriculture, and farming but have many benefits over other light sources in these fields. By switching their traditionally used high-watt lights to LED grow lights, they can reduce energy consumption by up to 90%. This saves lot of money and preserves the environment at the same time. The plants will grow faster and they’ll receive more color with higher visual texture.
One of the main benefits is that the LEDs are a lot better for the environment, because they don't produce an extreme amount of heat and use a minimal amount of power. They do not contain any mercury, unlike fluorescent bulbs and compact fluorescent light bulbs, or other harmful chemicals. They also require little upkeep: no replacing bulbs because LEDs are solid-state devices.
Another benefit is that they are more energy efficient which makes them much cheaper to run, reducing costs frequently by up to 80%. In addition, LEDs will considerably prolong just how long produce can be stored without going bad by reducing moisture loss, oxidation and mold growth.
