Sheep & Alpaca Drenching May 2021

We call this "herd health".  It is when we take time to look at our animals and treat them for anything we find (within our abilities).  The biggest problem this time of year is parasites.  Left untreated, they will kill your animals in a slow and painful way.  About once a month, we check the feces and if we see anything, we drench our sheep and alpacas.  Today we start that process.  We really need to set up a chute system to work this guys better.  We use cattle panels because that is what we have.  A chute system is pretty expensive and doing with what we have saves us a bit of money.  We capture a few of the herd and proceed to get them drenched.  Drenching a sheep or alpaca involves getting a hold of the animal and squirting medicine into their mouths with a applicator gun.  Below is the one we use.  (This is not an affiliate link)  This is probably the best drench gun we have ever used.  It is all metal and durable too.
