A tsunami advisory was in effect for the entire U.S. West Coast on Jan. 15, 2022. Here are live views from Cannon Beach on the Oregon coast.
An undersea volcano erupted in spectacular fashion Saturday near the Pacific nation of Tonga, sending large tsunami waves crashing across the shore and people rushing to higher ground. A tsunami advisory was in effect for Hawaii, Alaska and the U.S. Pacific coast, including the Oregon and Washington coast.
A tsunami advisory is the second-highest form of warning issued for a tsunami. It means waves between one to three feet are expected and that people should stay away from the shore.
