Anti-lock braking or ABS has been around for a while. It's designed more to help you steer away from danger than it is to help you stop. See the skater steer away from the Zamboni. By rapidly pulsing the brakes, steerability is maintained. If you feel your brakes vibrating or pushing back, it's ABS doing its job. It's been standard in all cars sold since 2012.
