Recrystallization of aluminium

This video is provided for educational purposes by Professor John Humphreys, Manchester University. A single-phase Al-0.1 wt%Mg alloy was cold rolled to a reduction of 50%, metallographically prepared, and annealed at 300 C in a Field Emission Gun Camscan SEM.  Backscattered electron images were acquired at intervals of 30 s.  The deformed material shows contrast variations due to changes of crystallographic orientation within the grains.  (Ian Brough and John Humphreys)
