The Song « Valoa ikkunassa »
Eino Hurme (1931–2010) was a Finnish amateur composer who worked in the printing industry.
Playing and composing were his favourite hobbies. Eino HURME’s oeuvre is very limited; as a composer he wrote only about ten recorded compositions, the most famous being “Valoa ikkunassa".
"Valoa ikkunassa" (English: Light in the window) was the debut entry from Finland in the Eurovision Song Contest 1961 in Cannes, performed by Laila Kinnunen. It was also the first time that the language had been heard in the Contest.
The Band
This Finnish group was founded in 1981. Originally we find Jari Aaltonen, rhythm, Markku Tuominen, bass and Jarmo Tuominen, drums. All three have played with The Scavengers. They are joined by Matti Luhtala, soloist. They all started at the age of 14,after beginnings with The bat, then Stingray or other local orchestras. The departure of Scavengers soloist Ari Ovaska allowed Matti Luhtala to join the band.
During the summer of 1981, they met two enthusiasts of the instrumental and its Finnish version the Rautalanka: Olle Salo and Seppo Salminen. The latter are the founders of the Rautalanka records label.
They suggest that our "scavengers", i.e. garbage collectors, change their name. Olle Salo suggests that they call themselves the mustangs, in reference to the horse and the piece from the Shadows. In addition, our two enthusiasts introduced the Mustangs to the joys of echo, allowing them to develop a distinctive sound.
The Mustangs found their following and in 1983 they released their debut album Mustang. This album was successful in Finland and Europe. In 1986 they released their second album Must twang.
In 1996 the Mustangs went into hibernation. But the nostalgia for mustangs was going to be stronger. Jarmo Tuominen proposed to relaunch the group with the founding members.
The Mustangs are one of the flagship bands of the rich Finnish scene, and regularly release albums with this famous Mustang sound and style.

L’œuvre d’Eino HURME est très limitée ; en tant que compositeur, il n’a écrit qu’une dizaine de compositions enregistrées, la plus célèbre étant « Valoa ikkunassa ».
"Valoa ikkunassa" (Anglais : Lumière dans la fenêtre)a été la première entrée Finlandaise au Concours Eurovision de la chanson 1961 à Cannes, chantée par Laila Kinnunen. C'était aussi la première fois que la langue était entendue au concours.
Le Groupe
Ce groupe finlandais a été fondé en 1981. A l’origine on trouve Jari Aaltonen, rythmique, Markku Tuominen, basse et Jarmo Tuominen, batterie. Tous trois ont joué avec The Scavengers. Ils sont rejoints par Matti Luhtala, soliste. Ils ont tous débuté à l’âge de 14 ans, après des débuts avec The bat, puis Stingray ou autres orchestres locaux. Le départ du soliste des Scavengers Ari Ovaska a permis à Matti Luhtala de rejoindre le groupe.
Durant l’été de 1981, ils firent la connaissance de deux passionnés d’instrumental et de sa version finlandaise le Rautalanka : Olle Salo et Seppo Salminen. Ces derniers sont les fondateurs du label Rautalanka records.
Ils proposent à nos « scavengers », c’est à dire éboueurs, de changer de nom. Olle Salo leur suggère de s’appeler les mustangs, par référence au cheval et au morceau des Shadows. De plus nos deux passionnés initièrent les Mustangs aux joies de l’écho, leur permettant de développer un son distinctif.
Les Mustangs trouvèrent leur public et en 1983, ils sortirent leur premier album Mustang. Cet album eut du succès en Finlande et en Europe. En 1986 ils sortirent leur deuxième album Must twang.
En 1996 les Mustangs hibernèrent. Mais la nostalgie des mustangs allait être plus forte. Jarmo Tuominen proposait de relancer le groupe avec les membres fondateurs.
Les mustangs sont un des groupes phare de la riche scène finlandaise, et sortent régulièrement des albums avec ce fameux son et style Mustang.
