Introduction ###

Hi guys,

in this video, I am going to show you how you can create a Crypto Portfolio Tracker in PowerBI. If you like these types of videos please subscribe to my channel. I will post new PowerBI projects and tutorials and share with you all the data so you can practice on your own. You can find all documents and data sources below.

For this project, I imported all data directly from www.coinmarketcap.com using their API. This way you will be able to view all live data directly in your PowerBI dashboard. If you do not know what "coinmarketcap" is, it is the world's most-referenced price-tracking website for crypto assets.

The project has three main parts.

1. Data Import / Extraction from "coinmarketcap"
2. Data Transformation using Power Query and Loading into PowerBI
3. Design Part

Step 1 Data Import from Coinmarketcap ###

You need three main things to extract data from coinmarketcap.

1. API Key from coinmarketcap.

2. HTTP request header parameters type =  X-CMC_PRO_API_KEY

3.The URL parts with the Symbols of the coins you’d like in your portfolio. For example: https://pro-api.coinmarketcap.com/v1/...

Step 2 Data Extraction and Loading to Power BI using Power Query ###

In the next step, we want to extract only the data we need from coinmarketcap and add our portfolio information.

We need a resulted table that contains the following columns:

Name (alphanumeric)
Symbol (alphanumeric)
Circulating Supply (Whole number)
Total Supply (Whole number)
Current Price (decimal number)
Volume 24h (Whole number)
Marketcap (Whole number)
Dollars Spent (Decimal number)
Coins Bought (Decimal number)
Average Price (decimal number)
Current Value (decimal number) = PriceCurrent * Coinsbought
Profit (Decimal number) = Current value - Dollars Spent
ROI (percent) = Profit / Dollars Spent

Step 3 Design ###

Last but not least, we have the most fun part, which is the design part.

For the color palettes, we are using the following website.

https://coolors.co

And more specifically this palette here.

https://bit.ly/3jsn9K5

We will have a header with the top performer and the worst performer, My Profit, and Holdings (left will be the logo displayed), and the header is separated by a bar from the rest of the chart.

We will analyze the coin allocation via a pie chart; the Acquisition cost with profit/loss via a column chart and the ROI via a clustered bar chart.

Finally, all relevant data will be displayed in a table at the bottom of the report.
