This is a video in my new Core Concepts series -- designed to provide students and lifelong learners a brief discussion focused on one main concept from a classic philosophical text and thinker.  This Core Concept video focuses on Augustine of Hippo's work, the Confessions, specifically on his discussion of the nature of evil, and the problem of understanding how, given the existence of God, there could be evil in the universe in book 7.

By Augustine's own admission, he was approaching the question of the origin or cause of evil in some mistaken ways, and he reviews both the mistaken attempts and some of the assumptions underlying them, in his discussion in book 7.
