Cats are naturally nocturnal animals. Therefore, wild cats usually hunt at dawn or in the middle of the night. Even though domestic cats do not have to hunt for their food, their nocturnal, predatory instincts can lead to “midnight crazies.”
2. Imaginary Hunting
Cats who engage in zoomies can seem like they are chasing something. If your cat is behaving like this on their own, they might be pretending to be on an imaginary hunt.
3. Young Age or Lack of Exercise
Wild cats or stray cats rarely engage in cat zoomies since they actually hunt throughout the day.
However, house cats who don’t have to hunt for food often experience zoomies to burn off the pent up energy resulting from a lack of exercise.
Baby kittens also show such behavior because they are full of energy.
4. Cat Play
Zoomies are cats’ typical way of playing. Cats who live together with other cats will often engage in cat zoomies with each other.

If cats suddenly run up the cat tower or get the zoomies after their visit to the litter box, they are probably relieved to have pooped safely.
