More than 1.1 million people fled their homes in Somalia due to drought and conflict in 2017, adding to the one million people who were already displaced within the country from previous years.

Beyond Somalia’s borders, an additional one million people live as refugees. Supported by EU humanitarian funds, the emergency cash project brought together five humanitarian organisations, Cooperazione Internazionale, Concern World Wide, Save the Children International, the Danish Refugee Council and the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC). Cash transfers are a dignified, effective, and efficient way of providing humanitarian relief to the people who need it the most. Cash transfers have helped thousands of people in Somalia survive a seemingly endless drought.
