I used a knife to carve a rustic wand from a twig.
The old Sycamore out back is done for and a recent storm knocked loose some small branches. I thought it would be a great opportunity to try out my new Morakniv sloyd knife and whittle a quick magic wand with absolutely zero talking. (You're welcome)

⚠ SAFETY WARNING ⚠
Knife carving can be extremely dangerous. Never make cuts toward your body, or between your knees. Do not cut within reach of other people. Supervise children who are using knives. Know how to practice knife safety before using a knife.

The process is quite simple: find a twig or small branch that feels 'wand-like' and strip the bark and cambium layer from everything except the handle. This results in an attractive contrast between the bark and the sapwood. This project is perfectly timed since it happens to be Halloween, and neither of my kids' costumes have anything to do with magic wands. Oh well, it's still good whittling practice.

If you're feeling the soul of the Pumpkin Spice, you can even use these stripped bark branches in your Fall home decor... Actually, that sounds like a great idea for a future arts & crafts video.
