Frank Herbert's Dune has often been considered unadaptable due how dense the source material is and how the previous adaptations have failed to properly capture essence of the Dune novel. With Dune (2021) or Denis Villeneuve Dune, Denis Villeneuve comes to the property as not only one of the finest filmmakers working today, but a lifelong fan of the material and someone who we can trust to make a truly great Dune movie...or so we hoped. While Villeneuve is undoubtedly a fan and has a genuine love for Herbert's novel, the new Dune movie feels like it barely scratches the surface when introducing us to the world and establishing the characters. For a book that is rich with detail, and for a film that is immaculately crafted and performed, it lacks the very texture that makes fantasy franchises like Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, and even Star Wars stick. Is Dune a bad movie? No, it's fine, but it could've and should've been great, except for Hans Zimmer who's Dune soundtrack is arguably career best material. Dune is directed by Denis Villeneuve and stars Timothee Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Oscar Isaac, Zendaya, Jason Momoa, Javier Bardem, Josh Brolin, Dave Bautista and Stellen Skarsgard.In the far future of humanity, Duke Leto Atreides accepts the stewardship of the dangerous desert planet Arrakis, also known as Dune, the only source of the most valuable substance in the universe, "melange" (known as "spice"), a drug that extends human life, provides superhuman levels of thought, and makes faster-than-light travel practical. Though Leto knows the opportunity is an intricate trap set by his enemies, he takes his Bene Gesserit concubine Lady Jessica, young son and heir Paul, and most trusted advisors to Arrakis. Leto takes control of the spice mining operation, which is made perilous by the presence of giant sandworms. A bitter betrayal leads Paul and Jessica to the Fremen, natives of Arrakis who live in the deep desert. The film covers roughly the first half of the book, through Paul's meeting with Chani and his victory in a Fremen ritual duel with Jamis, events that Paul had seen in previous visions representing the end of his life as Paul Atreides and the start of his life as "Paul Muad'Dib", the Fremen messiah.
