Types of Mutual Fund
Open Ended – Buy and sell these funds on a continuous basis, it has unlimited shares issued by the fund. Investors are allowed to enter and exit as per their convenience. Investors can buy or sell the units of open-ended fund after its NFO period. The price at which shares are issued is proportional to net asset value (NAV) of the fund.
Close Ended – It has a fixed number of shares launched through Initial Public Offering (IPO) and sold on the open market. Unlike open-ended funds, investors cannot buy or sell the units of close-ended fund after its NFO period is over. The price per share is determined by the market based on supply and demand throughout the trading day.
Fixed Maturity Plan (FMP) – It is a closed-ended debt mutual fund with a fixed maturity date which invests in debt & money market instruments maturing on or before the date of the maturity of the scheme. This synchronization is done in order to eliminate the risk of interest rate fluctuation, these schemes are most suitable for investors who are looking for stable returns with minimum exposure to market risk.
