Hitachi has introduced a new generation of excavator: the innovative hybrid ZH210LC-5.
Advanced electrical technology delivers reliable performance and controllability, with up to 31 per cent less fuel and emissions than the conventional model.
More economical for owners, easier for operators and better for the environment, the ZH210LC-5 is the natural choice for excavating and loading applications.

I was not surprised when I heard about the hybrid concept
Hybrid vehicles were already popular in Japan and there are many electrical companies within the Hitachi group
Our main aims are to reduce fuel consumption and comply with local legislation
This machine will be especially beneficial to customers who operate with a high swing ratio, for example with loading trucks
The ZH210LC-5 is most cost effective when the swing ratio is more than 40%
The hybrid system has a swing motor that converts energy into electrical energy
During braking of the swing motion, the energy is released and it’s stored in the capacitor for reuse
When the swing motion starts again, the energy stored is reused in the combination with the assist motor
Our customers in Europe need more versatile machines, therefore we had to test the hybrid in many different applications and environments
When Hitachi asked us if it would be possible to carry out a winter test on the ZH210LC-5 hybrid excavator, we said “of course”
We chose the test area of Rovaniemi, because it is cold and there is a lot of snow
It is great to have the excavator in this area, as there are many other tests being undertaken by truck, car and tyre manufacturers
It is great to have the Hybrid excavator to test here in the north (of Finland), I was interested to see how it performed and it’s working well
When I tested the machine I found that it is easy to use and quiet
I have 33 years’ experience operating excavators and my first impressions are that it is easy to operate, has a smooth swing motion and is fuel efficient
The hybrid has been really tested as it has been working at temperatures as low as -30ºC without any problems
The fuel consumption is very low, even though we are using it in tough conditions
My responsibility is the maintenance of the hybrid and I check it every two weeks
It is good to see the hybrid machine and the new technology within it
The best feature of the hybrid is the reduced noise and silent swing motion
We check the operating information of the hybrid machine by downloading the data with MaintenancePro
We can share the hybrid data with our Hitachi dealers and customers by uploading it to Global e-Service
This facility shows the decrease in fuel consumption and CO2 emissions
When I heard about the introduction of the hybrid excavator, I wondered how does it work and what will it actually bring to our customers?
But now I’ve seen it in action, I’m really impressed with its performance
When I saw the finished product for the first time, I had a very positive feeling
The three main benefits are:
1) reduced running costs through lower fuel consumption...
2) helping the environment with less emissions and…
3) the customer is happy with the level of performance and controllability
The reduced running costs will have a big impact on the return on investment
The ZH210LC-5 offers a simple and cost-effective hybrid solution in comparison to our competitors
The tests have been really successful and we are introducing this new product with confidence
I’m convinced that this is only the first step on the road to green technology
The customer now has the option to save fuel by using a hybrid excavator
The running costs of the hybrid machine are low and I would consider buying one in the future
