A Special Kind Of Childcare Teacher

Ayuni has mild intellectual disability. When the childcare group under Presbyterian Community Services (PCS) decided to train her and other Grace Orchard School students with mild intellectual disability to work in childcare centres as teacher aides, questions arose.

Would their presence give the teachers more work? Would the children be able to tell the difference? And would their parents be willing to give them a chance?

Here's the story of one of the trainees, Ayuni's transformation - from a quiet and reserved girl to a confident young woman who dreams of becoming a childcare teacher.
